While Alex Trebek has provided fans regular updates on his battle with stage 4 pancreatic cancer, today’s update is particularly special because it marks one year since he was diagnosed.

In a video shared on the "Jeopardy" Twitter account, the host revealed that he’s beating the odds.

The 79-year-old said he is now one of “18% of patients” to survive the first-year diagnosis.

His hope going forward into the next year is that he’ll be able to defy the odds once again and be among the 7% of patients that make it to the two-year mark.

"My oncologist tried to cheer me up the other day ... He was certain that one year from now, the two of us would be sitting in his office celebrating my second anniversary of survival," he said. "If we take it just one day at a time, with a positive attitude, anything is possible."

Despite choosing to remain optimistic, Trebek didn’t try to cover up the darker moments or pretend that the year wasn’t filled with hardships, pain, and depression.

"Now I'd be lying if I said the journey had been an easy one," he said. "There were some good days, but a lot of not so good days. I joked with friends that the cancer won't kill me, the chemo treatments will."

He said those darker moments made him wonder “if it really was worth fighting on.”

However, he said that kind of thinking felt like a “betrayal” not only to his wife, Jean, who was by his side but to all the other cancer patients who look to him for hope and those who sent prayers on his behalf.

At the end of the video, he promised to keep everyone posted on his fight.

On March 6, 2019, Trebek opened up about his diagnosis while assuring fans that he would do everything in his power to fight, adding, “I plan to beat the low survival rate statistics for this disease." He kept his promise.

Trebek previously thanked fans from all over the world for their continuous outpouring of love, support, and prayers.

The longtime host has maintained that he will continue hosting until he is no longer able to.

But even as he’s going through his own struggles, Trebek donated $100,000 to the Hope of the Valley Rescue Mission, a nonprofit that focuses on preventing, eliminating and reducing poverty, homelessness, and hunger.
