A 3-week-old infant on Long Island has become the youngest coronavirus patient in the U.S., according to a report.

According to Fox News, the baby is recovering at home after being treated at NYU Winthrop Hospital in Mineola for several days.

The report adds that the staff was implementing plans they had ready to treat young patients, including to provide them with oxygen, Dr. Asif Noor, a pediatric infectious disease specialist at the hospital said.

Dr. Noor also said that young patients that don’t need oxygen are sent home to recover under close observation.

"We are instructing these parents to adhere to common sense infection control precautions at home," Dr. Noor said.

Children showing mild symptoms can still be a big risk factor for seniors and other people in their homes. He recommends keeping a close watch for fevers and respiratory symptoms.
