One Direction just became one of only four bands to have four members score Top 40 solo hits!
One Direction just reached an interesting milestone. Liam Payne’s new track “Strip That Down” just hit the Top 40 and made them one of the few bands with four members to make the Top 40 with a solo song.
Harry Styles, Zayn, and Niall Horan have already done it. But so far, Louis Tomlinson has only managed to make it to #52, with “Just Hold On”.
If Louis ever gets there, One D will tie the EAGLES for the most band members with a Top 40 hit, with FIVE. Eagles who’ve done it are Don Henley, Glenn Frey, Joe Walsh, Timothy B. Schmidt, and Randy Meisner.
There are only THREE bands besides One Direction who have four. The obvious one is the Beatles, and they can’t move any higher on the list.
Neither can U2. Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen made the Top 40 when they redid the theme from “Mission: Impossible” for the 1996 Tom Cruise movie.
And last but not least is Fleetwood Mac, thanks to solo hits from Stevie Nicks, Lindsay Buckingham, Christine McVie, and Bob Welch.
By the way, the Wu Tang Clan is the group with the most members to make the Hot 100 with EIGHT. But only THREE have cracked the Top 40 – Method Man, Raekwon, and Ol’ Dirty Bastard.
