Singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen has died at 82.
Sadly, Leonard Cohen has died. His label announced yesterday that Leonard passed away at the age of 82. They said, quote, “It is with profound sorrow we report that legendary poet, songwriter and artist, Leonard Cohen has passed away.
“We have lost one of music’s most revered and prolific visionaries. A memorial will take place in Los Angeles at a later date. The family requests privacy during their time of grief.” There’s no word on the cause of death.
Cohen was one of the most influential singer-songwriters of the ’60s and early ’70s, and kept working right up until the end. He just released an album last month called “You Want it Darker”.
He’ll probably be best known for the song “Hallelujah”, which became even more famous when Jeff Buckley covered it in 1994. Then its popularity really shot through the roof when it was in the movie “Shrek” in 2001 sung by John Cale.
