5 On Friday – 5 Brunch Spots To Try This Spring

They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and I often say it’s the tastiest. Who doesn’t enjoy some french toast with a Bellini? Or how about a tasty omelet with a fresh cup of joe?

St. Louis has some of the best brunch spots around and I thought what a great way to celebrate breakfast than to dedicate this week’s 5 on Friday to some of the best brunch spots here in The Lou!

I had the opportunity to try The Scottish Arms‘ food recently at KMOX’s Food Fight and was not disappointed at all. Every Sunday, brunchers can enjoy fresh-farm eggs whichever way they want them. Or why not try the Scottish Breakfast consisting of two eggs, house made banger, bacon, grilled tomato, mushrooms, baked beans and wheat toast. Wash it down with a fresh squeezed, bottomless mimosa or get creative with their Bloddy Mary bar. Yes, a Bloody Mary bar. That alone is enough of a reason to check out The Scottish Arms. Delish! And I forgot to mention their delicious Seamus MacBenedict — poached eggs, smoked salmon, toasted English muffin and hollandaise sauce. Yum!

If you love crepes, then you need to check out Rooster on Locust. And South City & Tower Grove folks, get ready because a Rooster is opening up on South Grand in the near future. But back to these crepes. They divide them into groups helping you & your taste buds decide which to chose. My personal favorite? Brie #2 full of cherry chutney, arugula, & fresh apples. Yum! Second favorite brunch item is their Rooster Slinger — andouille sausage, breakfast sausage, breakfast potatoes, friend eggs & sausgage gravy over thick-cut toast. Be sure to check out their extensive mimosa menu, too. You won’t be disappointed.

While Rooster may be the king of crepes, Melt is definitely the king of waffles. Known for their signature waffles, Melt is a go to brunch spot if you’re craving something unique. But keep in mind, Melt’s just not a brunch spot. Want a delicious Slinger waffle — chilli, eggs, onions & cheese — to soak up some of the drinks you indulged in on Friday or Saturday night? Melt’s open until 3 AM on Friday & Saturdays to appease the late night foodies looking for a spot to chow down. Have a sweet tooth? Add a scoop of ice cream to your double chocolate chip waffler with a drizzle of fudge. Mmmm. Or just get it in a signature waffle cone. Can you really go wrong? The answer is no. Especially since they offer waffle lovers an option to spike their lattes or sip on a bloody.

You don’t have to wait until Sunday to get your brunch on at Brasserie by Niche. Located in the Central West End, you can feast on an a simple, but amazing a la carte menu including their house made granola, brioche French toast — my favorite — or try their Brasserie burger, covered in blue cheese, pickled red onion & arugula. Always serving up fresh ingredients, Brasserie by Niche is a place to enjoy the simple but decadent things in life. And as always, what brunch would be complete without their cocktails? My go to drink is their violet 75 — gin, creme de violette, lemon & champagne — worth the visit itself.

That’s right folks, The Grove’s very own Atomic Cowboy will be serving brunch starting this Sunday, April 6th. Putting their Fresh Mex cuisine to the test, the restaurant has created a brunch menu that has many patiently waiting to try. Like some brunch restaurants that have a Mexican flair, they’ll be offering huevos rancheros — 3 sunny side up eggs, cowboy beans, salsa verde & cowboy salsa with warm flour tortillas. And of course, some breakfast tacos & burritos, full of eggs, your choice of chorizo or bacon, 3 cheese blend, pico de gallo, guacamole and finished off with some salsa verde. Mmm, mmm. I can’t wait to try their brunch menu. With Atomic Cowboy  posting sneak peeks pictures on their social media accounts — strawberry mango mimosas & tamales — it looks & sounds like they’ll be one of the hot brunch spots to check out in the area.
