Four Everyday Items That Can Be Hazardous To Your Health

Phillips & Company share from a “Reader’s Digest” article on the things you come in contact with everyday that are hazardous to your health.

#1.) The Styrofoam Containers at Take-Out Restaurants. Check the bottom for a recycling symbol with the number “six” in it. It means it’s made of polystyrene, which can mess with your hormones, and might also be linked to cancer.

#2.) Non-Stick Cookware. If it’s NEW, you might be okay. But a lot of old non-stick pans are made with something called PFC. And if it gets too hot . . . like 650 degrees . . . it starts giving off fumes that could cause cancer.

–650 is pretty hot though. For example, olive oil starts smoking at 410 degrees. So just make sure you don’t leave an empty pan on a hot burner.

–And you also might want to get rid of pots and pans if they’re made with aluminum. Some researchers think there’s a link to Alzheimer’s Disease.

#3.) Water Bottles. If it’s a reusable one, look for the number “seven” on the bottom. They contain something called “bisphenol A,” which is linked to prostate cancer. In general, plastics with the numbers 1, 2, 4, and 5 are the safest.

#4.) Backyard Furniture, Shower Curtains, and Toys. If they have a number “three,” it means they contain PVC. And if you have kids, certain chemicals in PVC can mimic hormones and stunt their growth.
